Citroën Technospace Concept


When was the last time you got excited about a compact MPV? It's a good question, but Citroën's Geneva-bound Technospace Concept has got us just that. Firstly because of its clean, avant-garde surfaces that make it the first car deserving of the Citroën badge for quite a while, and secondly because it's not just the paint job that's green.

Citroën have sold nearly 3 million Picassos since the original in 1999, and so with an emissions figure of just 98/g/km carbon dixoide this is a car that can make a difference. If Citroën can make good on the promise of sub-100g/km emissions in a car that's almost 4.5 metres long with a 537-litre boot, it will be a good achievement, and partly due to the car being built on PSA's new Efficient Modular Platform, which has helped reduce weight.

In design terms, the concept is still identifiable as a 'Picasso' in profile but a new integrated headlight/grille graphic and trapezoidal grille set it far apart from its forebears. The use of wide bands of chrome is also a growing trend at PSA, and both the grille and C-pillar sport shiny inserts. Less noticeable but more significant are the extremely slender A-pillars. At the back, the Technospace features 3D rear lamps also seen on the traditionally more fashionable DS3 models, but why can't MPVs be stylish?
