On the 50th anniversary of the world renown Salone Internazionale del Mobile the ties between the automotive and furniture worlds emphatically met once again. One of the most famous shopping streets in the world was played host to “Montenapoleone Design Experience by Citroën – AUTO MOBILI”, born from a collaboration between l’Associazione della Via MonteNapoleone, Citroën and Cosmit (the Salone organising body).
The street show paid homage to 50 years of the Salone del Mobile by reflecting upon fifty years of historical pieces shown at the fair curated alongside five Citroën cars that throughout the years have become, in their own right, icons in the automotive world.
Via Montenapoleone, trend setter in the realm of fashion and design, was dressed with 5 simple emblematic red wooden houses. On the inside of each house a decade of style was re-enacted with design objects that exemplified the times as well as having featured prominentaly at the Salone at the time, starting from the 50’s until the year 2000. To each house a luxury car was selected from Citroën’s archives to mark each period beginning with the DS21 from 1968 until the current DS5 Hybrid4. In between an SM, CX, and XM also took visitors back in time.
The experience was not only a visual one. Each house sung out classic Italian songs that would have been heard during each respective decade ceating a real feeling of walking through time as one strolled down Via MonteNapoleane. The evolution of design in the furniture and automotive industry is thus born from the street, the unequivocal protagonist during this unique exhibition. The street suggests a horizontal line of documented progress over the years of the Salone del Mobile yet simultaneously refers to other future developments in the world of design and trends. Looking back at history and taking note was surely one of the key experiences drawn from the 2012 edition of the Salone Internazionale Del Mobile of Milan.
